I planted Sweet Rocket (hesperis) 25 years ago, and it has planted itself every year since. It is classified as an invasive plant, and thus shunned by responsible gardeners. I love it.
I love sunflowers but haven't had any uck growing them so far. Your's are great.
Love the colours - blue sky, green leaves, yellow sunflower...
Thanks, guys. I love those colors, too. Color is something I miss in winter. (But who's anticipating?)
12 feet, and not keeling over? That's really something.
Lali, two days after I took that picture, the flower head began to bend over. Now it's facing the ground. I don't know why they do that. My favorite variety, Skyscraper, seems to hold their heads up longer. I forget the name of this one; they were new to me this year. The stalks of all the big ones are hard as wood. They even look like wood inside. I leave them all up so the birds can get the seeds. It's fun to watch them in the sunflower patch.
Absolutely stunning. Tim is completely impressed too and wants to send you a jpg of a watercolor he did of one. When we get home. We'll see if we can remember.
